Kidde-Fenwal is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, a worldwide technology company with a long history of pioneering advancements in aerospace, aviation, helicopter design, climate control, elevator design and hydrogen fuel cells. Kidde-Fenwal originated in 1966 when Walter Kidde & Company, a leading fire protection manufacturer in New Jersey, acquired Fenwal, a manufacturer of temperature and gas ignition controls. In 1989, Williams Holdings, a major British industrial corporation, acquired Fenwal and the other Kidde fire protection companies. Following the acquisition, the new company was renamed Kidde-Fenwal. The company was one of the first to manufacture a laser-based smote detection system and a gas ignition system. Kidde-Fenwal is headquartered in Ashland, Mass.
