Started in 1993, FAMILY SUPPORT Early Intervention is a program monitored and licensed by the Department of Public Health. The program includes family-centered developmental services to children and treatment for prematurity and low birth weight. It also deals with the problems of poor nutrition, poisoning and drug exposure. FAMILY SUPPORT Early Intervention has a team of nurses, occupational and physical therapists, social workers, speech pathologists and psychologists. The program additionally includes developmental evaluation, community-based group support, parent and professional trainings and educational and referral services. Located in Danvers, Mass., it serves more than 300 children and families. FAMILY SUPPORT Early Intervention is a part of The North Shore Arc, which offers support care to people with disabilities.
