History
The Elbow Room opened in 2004 in a former ATM kiosk across from Smith College in Northampton, MA. For nearly 7 years, we packed crowds into our humble 120 square foot espresso bar, serving 100% fair trade organic coffees roasted locally by Dean's Beans. We ventured into roasting our own fair trade brews a couple years later, and sold the tiny shop, relocating Williamsburg to go solo as a fair trade roaster. Our Williamsburg location spent 3 years as a roasting facility, offering coffees online, at local shops, and at area farmers markets. In 2012 we added an espresso bar and small kitchen, and opened up as a retail establishment. We partnered with ETICO fair trade coffee importers in 2014, strengthening our relationships with the coffee cooperatives and growers who labor so that we can enjoy the finest coffees in the world. Today, Elbow Room Coffee has become a fixture in the community and is the friendly coffee go-to for locals and travelers alike. All in a tiny space with no seats!
