The Brookline Housing Authority was founded in 1948 to provide housing for the veterans of World War II. Today, it houses more than 4,130 residents in over 920 apartment units and manages nearly 650 rental vouchers. The authority provides Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers to qualified residents living in privately owned apartments. It offers child care, youth mentoring, and individual and family counseling services. The Brookline Housing Authority also provides summer employment programs. In addition, it conducts English as a Second Language classes. The authority provides opportunities to residents to participate in several ongoing programs, such as Head Start, computer learning, education counseling and creative arts.
