Founded in 1975, the Slone Epidemiology Center Boston University is a public health research organization. It offers various research study programs in health effects of medications and other factors in adults and children. Its specialty areas include epidemiology, adult and pediatric medicine, nursing, pharmacy, biostatistics and computer science. It also provides information about prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins and minerals, and herbal preparations and other natural supplements. The center organizes various seminars and survey programs on birth defects and women health. Its researchers use a variety of epidemiological tools, including case control and follow-up studies, clinical trials, surveillance studies, risk management studies and population-based surveys. The center is supported by grants and contracts from the National Institutes of Health and other government agencies. It is located in Boston.
