I am Barbara Dwumfour Davis, family nurse practitioner (FNP) and a mother to three beautiful children. I have been working in health care as a registered nurse and FNP for the past 8 years. My decision to do addiction medicine stemmed from firsthand experience.
A few years back, a family member of mine passed away from both opioid and alcohol use disorder, and I know the hurt and pain it inflicted on my family. On a personal level, it was one of the toughest things that I have had to deal with in my life. We are still healing from such a profound loss. It did not have to happen, and I wish I could have done more. Later, when I had the opportunity to work in the field of addiction recovery, I knew that it was the perfect lane for me.
