The American Legion was officially started in 1919, formed as a veterans' organization in the years after Word War I. Over time, it has evolved into a multifaceted organization that provides a myriad of services to veterans. In addition, the American Legion is a service organization that reaches out to mentor the next generation of American heroes through programs like Boys State, American Legion baseball and its child welfare foundation.
Jackson-Gourley-Roux-Daley Post 259 in Tewksbury is located on Pond Street. The distinctive building features a main hall and has a private club for members with an entrance in the back. The Legion hall is also home to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, as well as to the Disabled American Veterans chapter.
