The St. Mary's River Watershed Association (SMRWA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the St. Mary's River in Lexington Park, MD. With a focus on oyster habitat restoration, water quality monitoring, and environmental education, SMRWA works tirelessly to improve the health of the river and its surrounding ecosystem.
Through partnerships with local organizations and the support of volunteers, SMRWA has successfully planted millions of oysters, built reef balls, and deployed water quality monitoring buoys. Their efforts also include the publication of a comprehensive guide for residents on improving the environment and drinking water, as well as monitoring the impact of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on the river. Joining the 303d Campaign and becoming a River Guardian or River Steward allows individuals to actively contribute to the restoration and preservation of the St. Mary's River.
