Founded in 1813, historic St. Mary's Church led the way for Catholics in Montgomery County. Today, the church's organizations and ministries include CYO, the Health Ministry, St. Mary's Sodality, CCD and Youth Ministry and the Knights of Columbus. The parish is also home to St. Mary's Parish School, which educates students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The old church, which is now known as the Chapel of Our Lady, was designated a Pilgrim Church of the Millennium for the Jubilee Year 2000 by Washington Archbishop James Cardinal Hickey. The cemetery in front of the chapel is the final resting place of literary legend F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda.
