The Side Street Cafe is surrounded by warehouses and industry. The cafe is marked with a simple sign and if you're not careful you might miss it. Part of the exterior is a U-Haul location.
Once inside you feel as if you have been transported to a country cottage filled with charm. Candles are burning in the lobby which is filled with country-style furniture. Antique plates line the built-in bookshelves. Each room is a separate dining room tastefully decorated with classical art and crown molding and enclosed by French doors.
The simple food includes soups, salads and sandwiches. One of the special sandwiches is their gyro which has won the attention of Baltimore food critics. You may want to make a reservation because the lunch-only cafe gets quite busy.
