History
In the early 1940s our great-grandfather set out to purchase farmland in the fruit-growing region of Smithsburg, Maryland. During discussion of sale with the old farmer he noticed a single red heifer peacefully grazing. Our family farm was purchased that day along with that lone red heifer. Some say if not for the red heifer you would not be drinking this wine. In May 2010 the first grapevines were planted. Red Heifer Winery officially opened on Tuesday, November 27, 2012.
