New Mount Nebo Baptist Church, affectionately known as The Mount, was established in April of 1961 by a group of 10 individuals seeking spiritual revival after a series of prayer meetings. From its humble beginnings on Kentucky Avenue to its current location on Walker Mill Drive in Capitol Heights, Maryland, the church has remained committed to its mission of trusting and believing in God's word, serving the community, and striving for spiritual growth.
Under the leadership of Reverend Matthew Marks and later Reverend Robert R. Johnson Sr., the church experienced significant growth both spiritually and numerically. After years of dedication and hard work, the congregation was able to pay off the mortgage on their previous church building on Quire Avenue. In 2011, New Mount Nebo Baptist Church merged with Living Testimony Missionary Baptist Church, uniting under the leadership of Reverend Robert R. Johnson Sr. as the senior pastor and Reverend Robert R. Johnson Jr. as the pastor of The New Mount Nebo Baptist Church of Capitol Heights.
