Founded in 1921, National Council for the Social Studies is one of the largest associations in the United States dedicated to social studies education. Based in Silver Spring, Md., the association supports educators advocating social studies as well as teaching subjects, such as such as history, civics, geography, economics, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology and law-related education. National Council for the Social Studies represents elementary, secondary and college teachers as well as college/university faculty members, curriculum designers and social studies supervisors.
