Founded in 1853, Maryland School for the Blind is a private, nonprofit school, serving children from infancy to age 21 who are blind, visually impaired and have nultiple disabilities. The center provides instructional, residential, orientation and mobility, recreational programs and activities, health services, physical, speech and occupational therapies, and Braille instruction to students from various counties of Maryland and Baltimore. It teaches all of the basics subjects, including math, reading and science, in addition offering specialized services customized to meet the needs of the students. The center offers a wide range of services, such as Braille and low-vision instruction, assistive technology, therapeutic recreation, residential services, career education, health and dental services, psychological assistance, social work, speech, physical and occupational therapies, outreach, transition, audiology, and infant and toddler services. It is headquartered in Baltimore.
