Maryland-National Capital Park Police is an internationally accredited law enforcement agency that was founded in 1953. It employs more than 100 sworn officers and over 25 civil staff members. The park police secures and protects more than 23,000 acres of park property in Prince George's County, Md. It offers crime prevention and law enforcement services. The agency s Office of the Division Chief is responsible for establishing policies; human resources and financial management; providing public information; managing and coordinating the agency's accreditation process; and conducting audits and inspections. It also has field, support and investigative operation units. The agency s officers are responsible for protecting a variety of properties, such as undeveloped park lands, neighborhood parks, community centers, aquatic facilities, historical sites and mansions, sports arenas, and hiking and biking trails. Maryland-National Capital Park Police is located in Riverdale, Md., and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
