Founded in 1988, the Maryland Correctional Adjustment Center is a part of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, which is governed by the state government of Maryland. The department procures and manages the construction of state s correctional facilities. It operates correction and pretrial detention and services divisions. The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services also monitors more than 67,000 offenders under mandatory, parole and probation supervision in various communities throughout the state. In addition, the department provides a range of public safety and victim services. Its Baltimore City Detention Center is one of the largest pretrial detention facilities in the United States.
