Language Americas Association Inc is a nonprofit educational association based in Suitland, MD. They are the sponsor of Louie Llama, a dynamic and fun-loving cartoon character engaged in a media campaign to boost the self-esteem of kids, motivate them to read, and encourage them to stay drug and smoke-free. Through their outreach programs and smart ads, Language Americas aims to deliver prevention messages on street and prescription drugs, as well as target childhood obesity, in order to support ongoing prevention programs for children in America.
With a three-year trial program for preteens, Language Americas seeks funding through a stimulus grant or a congressional earmark, along with GAO oversight. Their English-Spanish reader for grades 3-7 has been recognized by the California Department of Education and may be considered for curriculum use by school districts. In addition to their drug prevention work, Language Americas also collaborates with SuperAmerican Books to perform read-ins for school kids and promote a drug-free lifestyle.
