International Rescue Committee
Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee offers life saving care and life changing assistance to refugees in times of disaster and war. Based in Baltimore, Md., it serves more than 40 countries, providing emergency relief, relocating refugees and rebuilding lives. The committee's work includes providing urgent supplies and health care, as well as protecting and empowering women and children, bringing public attention to neglected humanitarian emergencies, and much more. The International Rescue Committee encourages help through donations, fund-raising campaigns and volunteering, among others. Affiliated with the Women's Refugee Commission, some of its projects include helping the tsunami-affected communities in Indonesia and flood-affected victims of Pakistan. A Better Business Bureau accredited charity, it has received A+ from the American Institute of Philanthropy and the honor of being one of the top 10 Gold Star Charities by Forbes Investment Guide.
