Garrett Mentors is a non-profit organization founded in 2008, dedicated to providing caring and committed adult mentors to Pre-kindergarten through grade six children in the Garrett County Public Schools in Maryland. Their volunteer mentors, who are adults of all ages, serve as positive role models to children with diverse needs and backgrounds, meeting with them once a week during lunchtime at the child's school. Garrett Mentors also organizes out-of-school bonding experiences for the children and their mentors throughout the year.
Recognized for their exceptional volunteer work, Garrett Mentors received the Golden Apple Award for Garrett County in 2013 and was voted Garrett County's favorite charity in 2018. Their Executive Director, Laura Fike, has been honored with several awards for her contributions to the organization, including being named on the Maryland Daily Record's list of the Top 40 Leading Women Under 40 in 2022. With a motto of "Inspire by example," Garrett Mentors continues to make a positive impact on the lives of children in the community through their mentoring program.
