Named for Benjamin Banneker, the first African-American man of science, Banneker Park and Community Center dates back to the 17th century and sits on the farmstead owned by Banneker and his family. The park and community center are currently operated by the city's parks and recreation department. Amenities include multipurpose courts and ball fields, picnic areas, trails, a museum dedicated to Banneker and a restored 19th-century farmhouse.
