The Baltimore Alcohol Intervention mentioned above notes that interventions that are conducted without professional moderation run the risk of being "dangerous and very counterproductive." The point of the intervention is not to confront the addict with a list of his wrongdoing, but to get the addict to accept the offer of help (treatment).
