WGME-TV is an affiliate of Columbia Broadcasting Company. It provides local and national programming to the community of Portland, Maine, and surrounding areas. The station is a subsidiary of Sinclair Communications. Sinclair Communications is the operating arm of Sinclair Broadcast Group s broadcasting operations. Founded in 1986, Sinclair Broadcast Group is a diversified television broadcasting company that owns, programs and provides sales services to more than 55 television stations in 30-plus markets. Its stations include affiliates of American Broadcasting Company, National Broadcasting Company, Columbia Broadcasting Company, Fox, The WB Television Network and United Paramount Network. The company operates a local news network that works in conjunction with a centralized news operation. The network enables local programming of news in markets that would otherwise have difficulty in supporting news broadcasts. Sinclair Broadcast Group is headquartered in Hunt Valley, Md.
