Founded in 1865, the University of Maine was established as the Maine College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts under the provisions of the Morrill Act, approved by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862. The university operates a graduate school and offers a range of academic programs in business, natural sciences, forestry, agriculture, engineering, and liberal arts and sciences. It serves more than 12,000 students. The University of Maine offers over 80 bachelor's and nearly 60 master's degrees programs. The university also conducts the federal, state and private funding events for research, outreach and training programs. It offers teaching and technology services and provides advanced support for the university community in core technologies used in instruction and research.
