History
In 1991, John Spain took a trip to Kennebunkport. Working at a small gallery in New York City, he was interested in the oceanside artwork of Kennebunkport. A small gallery was going out of business. Hmm? After a talk with the owner, he said goodbye & headed home to his job and life in New York. His mind, and a bit of his heart, was still in Kennebunkport. Driving back, John made a deal with himself. He'd offer up his life savings to the owner & her little coastal town. If she took it, it was meant to be. If she didn't, his world would go on as normal. Life from then on has been far from normal. In 1996, only five years later, we changed our name to Maine Art Paintings and Sculpture. Four years later, in 2000, we moved across the street to a newly designed building on 14 Western Ave. For 15 years, it is here you find John and his amazing staff, over forty artists with connections to Maine, and a perfect place to a leave a little piece of your own heart.
