The Division of Weights and Measures regulates several aspects of commerce and trade throughout the state. The division assesses more than 100,000 commercial weighing, measuring, metering and scanning devices. It inspects a range of food, dairy, household, gardening and firewood products purchased daily by consumers and businesses. The Division of Weights and Measures is governed by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. The division s metrology laboratory calibrates and certifies standards and instruments that are used by various commercial, educational and research institutions. In addition, the laboratory serves state government agencies by providing technical assistance in measuring field. It is also responsible for the investigation of consumer complaints.
