History
The Louisiana Naval War Memorial Commission was created under the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism by Legislative Act 415 in 1979. The Commission was charged with the oversight and responsibility of obtaining and then maintaining the USS KIDD (DD-661), the Veterans Museum and its assets. The USS KIDD Veterans Museum is unique in that it's both an unfunded state agency and a non-profit organization. The majority of KIDD's revenues are self-generated through tickets sales, overnight camps, gift shop sales, guided tours, memberships, small grants and private donations.
