Established in 19178, the Texas Department of Transportation works in collaboration c with local and regional officials and is responsible for planning, designing, building, operating and maintaining the state's transportation system. Its Public Transportation Division provides financial, technical and coordination assistance to the state's public transit providers. The department also operates General Services Division, which handles procurement, as well as property, equipment fleet and records management issues.
