The Red River Waterway Commission represents the seven-parish Red River Waterway District that includes Caddo, Bossier, Red River, Natchitoches, Grant, Rapides and Avoyelles parishes in Louisiana. The commission participates in the economic development of the waterway area through assistance to the ports in developing initial facilities and by providing and maintaining navigable channels between the ports and the river channel. It has alliances with the U.S. Coast Guard, Red River Valley Association Navigation Committee, local and state government and congressional delegation. The Red River Waterway Commission maintains a location in Natchitoches, La., the port also has a 12,000-square-foot concrete river dock and wood chip loading facility.
