Founded in 1852, Louisiana School for the Deaf, also known as LSD, provides a variety of educational programs for people with hearing impairments in Louisiana. The institution enrolls students in pre-kindergarten through garde 12. Its campus is spread over an area of more than 115 acres and features nearly 20 buildings, including a football stadium, dormitories, and elementary, middle and high school facilities. Louisiana School for the Deaf hosts after-school activities, movie nights and dance shows. It organizes various sports tournaments for basketball, volleyball and cross-country. The institution s auditorium has a seating capacity of up to 800 people. It conducts video production and editing classes. Through its schools, Louisiana School for the Deaf offers math, English, science and social studies lessons. In addition it provides guidance counseling, food and sign language interpreting services. Louisiana School for the Deaf is accredited by the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf.
