Life Air Rescue was formed in November of 1993 when Schumpert's Life Air 1 and Willis-Knighton's Air Rescue merged to begin a trend-setting medevac service for the Ark-La-Tex. Since then, Life Air Rescue has transported approximately 600 patients per year and strive to uphold the highest standards in emergency and critical care transport. In 1996 Life Air Rescue received CAMTS accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems which is awarded to programs maintaining excellence in air medical transport. Life Air Rescue in the only air medical service in Louisiana with this accreditation. In 2009 Med-Trans Corporation and Metro Aviation formed an industry first partnership to take over the operations of Life Air Rescue. This partnership strenthens the commitment to air medical service in the Ark-La-Tex.
