Located in Lafayette, La., the Department of Community Development was established in 1976. It works to promote services geared toward enhancing the physical, social, economic, educational and cultural conditions of the jurisdiction of the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The department provides housing services to low- and moderate-income households and special needs households, as well as economic development opportunities. The Department of Community Development also offers housing and financial counseling and administers a variety of neighborhood revitalization activities, such as art, cultural, historic and senior programs. It operates the Lafayette Business and Career Solutions Center and the Acadiana Recovery Center, as well as housing and human services divisions.
