Located in New Orleans, the Foster Care and Family Services Department is a division of the Louisiana Department of Social Services, which is a nonprofit service agency that serves individuals with developmental disabilities. It provides assistance to eligible individuals and families while assisting clients to achieve their full potential. The department develops and makes services available to families and individuals that will strengthen the family unit, encourage stability in living arrangements and provide specialized care. In addition, it offers protective services to children and at-risk adults. The Louisiana Department of Social Services also offers adequate information to the general public regarding its programs and services and maintains adequate knowledge of community services to act as a referral source. In addition to providing direct services to families, the department contracts with several other public and community agencies that offer services to meet the needs of youths and families of the city.
