The Houma Police Department is a law enforcement agency that offers services for crime prevention and public education. It supports the Rape Aggression Defense System, which is a comprehensive course for woman that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on the basics of hands-on defense training. In addition, the department conducts various neighborhood watch programs. The Houma Police Department offers a variety bike patrol, case investigation, gun registration, crime prevention and emergency readiness services to the residents. It also organizes various educational programs that include McGruff the Crime Dog and Drug Abuse Resistance Education, which teaches children about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
