Louisville is the most populous city in Kentucky and the 29th most populated city in the United States, according to the 2020 census. Louisville is the historical seat of Jefferson County, and since the 2003 merger, it has also served as the nominal seat of the county, which is located on the Indiana border.
The Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government, sometimes known as Louisville Metro, is the official name of this unified city-county government. It is shortened to Louisville Metro. As of the 2020 census, the city's total consolidated population was 782,969.
