LifeSkills provides services for residents of south-central Kentucky whose lives are affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities or substance abuse. It is a private, nonprofit corporation that contracts with the Kentucky Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services for nearly 30 percent of its funding. The rest of its revenue is generated through third party payers, industrial contracts, grants and local support. A 21-member, volunteer board of directors, representing Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson and Warren Counties, governs the organization. The company s services for children and adolescents include treatment for anxiety, attention deficit, conduct disorders, defiant behaviors, depression, drug abuse, impulse control, intermittent explosive disorders, obsessive/compulsive disorders, post-traumatic stress and family discord. Its treatments for adults include depression, divorce, problems at work, violent behavior, serious mental illness, stress, marriage and family difficulties, anxiety and substance abuse. LifeSkills has headquarters in Bowling Green, Ky., and several service locations throughout its 10-county region.
