Laurel has all the products, programs and services that any aggressive independent retailer would need to be successful. The Griffin and Chesnut families, who currently maintain 100 per cent ownership in the company, founded Laurel Grocery Company in 1922. Laurel is located in London, Ky. It serves stores in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia. The company offers a complete program for any independent retailer from which to choose: IGA, Foodworld, Shoprite, Convenience Store Division and Laurel. Today it serves more than 420 retail locations, and has been profitable every year since 1922. Laurel became an IGA distributor and served its first IGA store in 2000. Today it serves more than 94 IGA stores. Laurel was awarded IGA Wholesaler of the Year in 2003.
