Kosair Charities was formed in 1923 by doctors, lawyers and community leaders, as well as a committee of members from Louisville's Kosair Shrine Temple. It is one of the largest private financial supporters of Kosair Children's Hospital in the United States. The organization provides medical care services for children of low-income families. Kosair Charities funds various agencies, including the Cerebral Palsy KIDS Center and the Spina Bifida Association of Kentucky. It opened the Pediatric Heart Research Center in a partnership with the University of Louisville and Jewish Hospital. The pediatric center focuses on assessing and developing heart assist devices for children. The center is located in Louisville, Ky.
