Kentucky Cooperage, a division among the Independent Stave Company s businesses, produces whiskey barrels in Lebanon, Ky. Established in 1912 by T.W. Boswell, the Independent Stave Company s initial business was focused on white oak staves and heading for cooperages. By 1951, the company s founder expanded into the bourbon barrel business that later led to the establishment of its wine barrel division, World Cooperage. Since 1997, ISC has established its international subsidiaries to meet the demand for American oak. The company boasts more than 50-percent of barrel production in the world, marketing its products in nearly 20 countries. Additionally, the company s subsidiary Stave Associates International, markets export stave and heading sets to cooperages in South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
