Established in 1979, the Independence Fire District provides fire and emergency service for the prevention and suppression of fires and protection of life and property. It serves an area of more than 40 square miles with a population of over 22,000 persons. The district responds to emergencies and natural disasters and conducts explosive device search and hazardous materials offensive operations. The Independence Fire District has more than 60 career, part-time and volunteer professionals who provide emergency medical, fire and rescue services. The district operates more than two fire stations and houses several engines, aerials and ambulances. It also supports various fire prevention and safety programs. The Independence Fire District is located in Independence, Ky.
