The East Kentucky Power Co-Operative is a nonprofit generation and transmission utility headquartered in Winchester, Ky. Its purpose is to generate energy and ship it to co-ops that distribute it to retail customers. Today, it provides wholesale energy and services to 16 distribution cooperatives through power plants, peaking units, hydro power and more than 2,600 miles of transmission lines. Cooperatives are owned, operated and governed by the people who use their energy and services. The 16 distribution cooperatives, which are called member systems, own EKPC. The East Kentucky Power Co-Operative has become one of Kentucky s fastest growing electric utilities. Its distribution cooperatives supply energy to about 500,000 Kentucky homes, farms, businesses and industries across 89 counties. Together, the cooperative and member cooperatives are known as Kentucky s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives.
