Established in 1964, The Community Action Council is a private, nonprofit organization that offers a range of support services for low-income individuals and families. It provides various energy assistance, emergency, housing, and child and family development services. The organization administers the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as LIHEAP, which offers subsidy and crisis management services for individuals and families. The Community Action Council conducts a weatherization program that features energy conservation services by updating heating equipment, reducing air leakage and insulating the exterior surfaces of homes. It also oversees the Head Start program, which includes education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services for children and families. Community Action Council maintains a location in Lexington, Ky.
