Founded in 2002, Appalachian Citizens' Law Center represents coal miners and their families on issues of black lung disease and mine safety. Working with groups and individuals, the firm protects the land and people from misuse and degradation caused by extractive industries. Based in Whitesburg, Ky., it handles individual cases and engages in strategic litigation and policy work in the areas of mine safety and health, environmental protection and sustainable energy. In addition, the firm advises and represents disabled miners and widows on their individual claims under the federal compensation program.
