Curtis Machine Company was started in 1946 with a lathe, milling machine and welder in a 20 by 30 foot building. One of the first jobs Curtis Machine Company contracted for was the manufacturing of a gearbox. By 1950, additional machines were purchased to perform subcontract work for the aircraft industry. The company started to design and build gearboxes and small power transmissions. Curtis Machine Company holds code classifications for American Gear Manufacturers Association, American Society of Agricultural Engineers and Society of Automotive Engineers. It dedicates more than 67,000 square-feet exclusively to gearbox production. It produces small parallel shaft units in spur and helical gearing, straight bevel and spiral bevel gearboxes. These units are used in hundreds of applications, including agriculture, transportation, material movement, printing machinery, flood control, petroleum distillation, food processing equipment, textile machinery and nuclear power plants.
