HistoryBrown v. Board of Education National Historic Site opened on May 17, 2004 with President George W. Bush at the 50th anniversary commemoration of the U.S. Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education. The landmark case, with over 400 plaintiffs in Delaware, Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, led to the desegregation of public schools. Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site interprets, for the benefit and inspiration of present and future generations, the people, places, and events that contributed to the landmark United States Supreme Court decision that outlawed segregation in public education.
