Founded in 1881, Drake University is one of the largest, private, coeducational, independent schools in Iowa. The university offers more than 70 undergraduate programs in over five colleges and schools. It also provides graduate programs in business education and law. Drake University has chemistry and chess clubs. The university supports the Chinese Student Association. It offers opportunities for students to participate in a range of sports activities, such as baseball, basketball, golf, softball, soccer, volleyball, cross-country, and track and field. Drake University provides courses in mass communication, journalism, and business and public administration. It is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
