State Bank & Trust opened for business in 1939. Its founders were John R. Hattery, Edgar Fawcett, and Fawcett s son, Harold. Branch offices were opened in McCallsburg, Iowa in 1940 and Colo, Iowa in 1943 where the bank houses its insurance operations. In 1983, the bank became partners with Ames National Corporation, an association of four central Iowa banks that operate in communities primarily in Story County. State Bank & Trust has an independent board of directors and autonomous policy and decision-making authority while allowing employees and customers the benefits of the affiliation. The bank offers checking, savings and money market accounts, certificates of deposit, individual retirement accounts, safe deposit boxes, and commercial banking and treasury services.
