Founded in 1942, Northwest Iowa Regional Airport is owned by the city of Spencer, Iowa. The city s Public Works Department is primarily responsible for the airport s maintenance. The oversight of daily operations, including rental of hangar space, fueling, charter flights and general aviation is undertaken by a contracted airport manager. The airport is used by private aircraft ranging from ultra-light to high-performance. It features concrete runways that are grooved and lit by a remote, three-intensity lighting system. The airport is situated on more than 880 acres of land located northwest of Spencer. It features a lobby that is equipped with computerized weather information, phones, books, charts and space for flight planning. Ground transportation in the form of cars and taxis is available by arrangement.
