The Cedar Rapids Paramount Theatre is one of the few surviving grand movie palaces of the early 20th century. Built in the 1920 s, this architecturally extravagant, 1900 seat theater/performing arts center hosts nearly 200 events per year including concerts, fundraisers, corporate meetings, dance recitals and the Broadway Series of live theater productions. It is home to Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra, the Cedar Rapids Organ Society and community concerts. It was a gift to the city in 1975. The Paramount is included in the National Register of Historic Places that notes buildings of historical or architectural significance. The style is standard theater architecture, a combination of baroque and rococo popular in theaters of the period. It features a Wurlitzer pipe organ.
