The Street Department is governed by the City of South Bend in Indiana, which also manages building, fire, engineering, police, public works, solid waste, and economic and community development departments. The Street Department has a sewers division that administers several preventative programs that clean and inspect storm and sanitary sewer systems. The division also conducts sewer construction programs. Its traffic and lighting division coordinates traffic control for parades, races, block parties and special events using streets and public facilities. The Street Department provides snow removal, paving and sweeping solutions. The department additionally administers a loose-leaf pickup program.
