Schurz Communications, Inc. is a South Bend based news and information company which consists of six business segments: Broadcasting Radio, Broadcasting TV, Cable TV, Newspaper Publishing, Shoppers and Commercial Printing. The company publishes seven daily newspapers in medium and small markets with a combined circulation of nearly 225,000. It also publishes Shoppers in California, has four television stations, four radio stations, two cable companies, and a printing company. Geographically, Schurz Communications has a presence in Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania, California, Florida, Missouri, Georgia and Virginia. It all began in 1872 Alfred B. Miller and Elmer Crockett founded the South Bend, Ind. Tribune. The Tribune is still the flagship property and family members have held editor and publisher positions at the newspaper for five generations.
